‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: What’s up with John Diggle?

There are certainly many questions worth asking as we get closer and closer to the “Arrow” season 5 premiere, but we certainly feel like the ones surrounding John Diggle are among the most interesting. While we’ve heard a certain amount of what Oliver and Felicity are going to be up to in between training new potential heroes and hoping to overcome the demons from the past, David Ramsey’s character has been somewhat missing in action. We know that he made the surprising decision reenlist in the Army at the end of season 4, and apparently when we pick things back up in October, he will still be there.

Speaking to IGN, executive producer Wendy Mericle laid out the current course of events for Diggle, explaining that even though he may be gone from Star City, he is certainly not forgotten:

“With Diggle, he’ll be in the army. We’ll have storylines with him. Just because he’s gone doesn’t mean [Team Arrow] don’t want him back, or that they’re not trying … There’s definitely contact, and he’s going to have his own story in the army where he realizes maybe this isn’t the place. Maybe he’s going to have to still keep looking for these answers about how to get his sense of mortality back.”

Given the love Diggle has for his family and also the bond he has with the other members of Original Team Arrow, we cannot see him being gone for too long. The main question is what he learned during his absence, and how much of that he will be able to apply to his future moving forward.
