David Spade hosting The Comedy Central Roast of Rob Lowe

Comedy Central -

We have made it no secret here in CarterMatt over the years: We love a good celebrity roast. That is especially true if it’s on Comedy Central. They’re often obnoxious and horribly offensive, but at the same time they’re intended to be so. If you watch and take any joke literally, then you are probably doing the wrong thing watching the show.

Today, there was some glorious news confirmed on the upcoming Comedy Central Roast of Rob Lowe: David Spade is going to be the host of this said endeavor. This comes after Jane Lynch, Seth MacFarlane, Seth Rogen, and Kevin Hart have all taken on this part successfully over the years. It’s a great gig, given that you get to make jokes at people while also being ruthlessly mocked over the course of the night.

In a statement (per Entertainment Weekly), Spade had the following to say about the gig:

“People seem to want a pretty face like Ronda Rousey or Rob Lowe to catch a beating once in awhile. What can I say? America’s just like that. Should be interesting.”

There is no word just yet on who the specific dais for this roast will be just yet, but we figure it’ll be a familiar mixture to some in the past (see James Franco, Charlie Sheen, Roseanne, or Justin Bieber). There’ll likely be some people who know Lowe through his career on shows like “The West Wing” and “Parks and Recreation,” and also a few other standups who are familiar thanks to their work on Comedy Central.

Our dream list probably includes the likes of Aziz Ansari (who has done one of these before, and worked with Lowe on “Parks”), Joshua Malina and Allison Janney of “The West Wing” (who have both proven to be really funny), and of course the Roastmaster General himself in Jeff Ross.

The roast is taping in Los Angeles August 27, and will air on September 5 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time.
