‘Supergirl’ season 2 spoilers: Meet Maggie Sawyer!

Supergirl -

The second season of “Supergirl” is building more and more of its cast, and today the newly-minted CW show has booked someone familiar to comic fans in Maggie Sawyer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Floriana Lima (“The Family”) has been cast in the role of a National City police officer who will bare some similarities to the comic character. Specifically, she will bear the responsibility of working alongside other officers to try to figure out how to solve some alien-related cases.

Sawyer is one of the first openly-gay characters within the Superman / Supergirl comic-book universe, and we imagine that her sexuality will also be brought over to the show as it continues to try to be a model in diversity in this genre. Given that there are so many characters on the show at this point, we’re still waiting to figure out just how much time the show is even going to have to focus on the subject of her dating life.

One way or another, we’ll have a chance to see when the show premieres in the coming months! Above all else, we’re happy that the CW – DC universe continues to be working hard in order to include more and more comic characters who haven’t really had much facetime on television as of yet. It enriches these individual stories, which will probably make some of the crossovers even more fulfilling when they happen a little bit down the road.
