‘Girl Meets World’ season 3 spoilers: First look at another sitcom icon!
Throughout the run of “Girl Meets World” so far, one of the priorities for producers has been trying to come up with unique ways to pay tribute to the original show. That is one of the reasons why there have been so many appearances from former cast members and even some literal flashbacks to boot!
What’s interesting about Friday’s upcoming episode “Girl Meets True Maya” is that rather than just giving you a “Boy Meets World” reference, the show is instead taking inspiration from another 90s TV show in “Family Matters.” The news broke months ago that Reginald VelJohnson a.k.a. Carl Winslow from that show would be guest-starring here, and lo and behold, he’s also playing a police officer!
The reason for this character’s presence on “Girl Meets World” ties back to the Maya character and her desire to let loose and be a little more free after finding herself. She’s always been characterized as a rebel, and this is a chance for her to let that flag fly. She’s going to start skipping school and doing a few other things “expected of her,” but what you have to wonder in this episode is what happens when she goes beyond expectations and starts to cause problems. Is there no such thing as middle ground for the character? That is something we will have to see, given that for now we are seeing her move back and forth along the pendulum.
Aside from Maya, having VelJohnson on the show should prove to just be a nice nod to longtime sitcom fans.
