‘Game of Thrones’ season 7: Maisie Williams envisions ‘lone ranger’ ending for Arya

LogoYou’re going to be waiting until next year to learn precisely what happens to Arya Stark on “Game of Thrones,” but we know that she is coming off of a great high in killing Walder Frey and effectively removing him from her fated list.

So where could she go next? There’s obviously a sentiment out there that she could return to Winterfell and to her sister Sansa and her brother Jon Snow, who we know isn’t technically her blood anymore (though nobody else realizes that). However, this isn’t really where Maisie Williams sees her story going. Speaking to People Magazine, she made it clear that she would be more than happy to have her character go rogue and continue to do things her way:

“I’d love for her to be a bit of a lone ranger … I’d love for her to be kind of like The Hound. I don’t really want her to reunite with her family because I don’t think that they’re the same people anymore or that she’s the same person anymore. I think she’s better off on her own. I’d love for her to be alive, actually, and be her own boss.”

There probably is something to be said here about the majority of Williams’ comments, specifically in that it would be hard to imagine her character settling into a normal society given what she’s been through. We’re all shaped by experiences, and Arya has not been someone over the course of the series’ run where she has killed for necessity; she’s done so out of revenge, and it takes a very specific person to want to do this.
