‘Arrow’ season 5 filming start date looms

Oliver -

The fifth season of “Arrow” may still be a little ways away from premiering on The CW, but we are at least starting to get a sense that we are getting ever closer to the next phase of the process: Filming!

In a post on Twitter last night, Stephen Amell confirmed that the show starts work on July 5 in preparation for the new season. Given all of the recently-announced additions to the cast, we’re not altogether shocked to see them back at work crafting new episodes. We know that Grant Gustin is getting set to head up to Canada, which to us means that “The Flash” is going to be starting production around the same time to the surprise of no one.

While specific news on “Arrow” season 5 has been scarce, what we do know is that this season could mark a return to some of the grittier storytelling that we have seen in the first couple of years of the show. There is a little less pressure this time around to launch other iterations of the DC universe now that there are a whopping four shows on The CW that are all connected in some way; thanks to that, everyone on “Arrow” can merely focus on their own world, even if it’s assured that there will be some sort of crossover that turns up over the course of the season. You don’t have all of these properties unless you want to mix things up at some point.

If you haven’t had a chance to see the bevy of “Arrow” updates over the course of the past few days, including some casting news, be sure to head over here to check them out right now!
