‘Outlander’ season 2: Photo highlights Richard Rankin’s Roger, Sophie Skelton’s Brianna
We know that there are many people out there who have been waiting for ages to see Roger and also Brianna on “Outlander,” and the waiting is almost over! On the show’s July 9 finale, the two characters, played by Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton respectively, are going to make their big debut. They are enormous parts of the Diana Gabaldon book series, and their story will be worth watching for many years to come.
Below, you can specifically check out a first look at them via Entertainment Weekly, and the site also had the following quote from Sophie about the role, and also some differences from the books:
“There’s been this buildup for so long … [The amount of scrutiny from book fans is] a scary thought because of things like the fact that Brianna’s from Boston, but we decided not to go with a Boston accent. We just assumed that given how she was raised in a private Catholic school in the ’60s, she sort of had any Boston drummed out of her and she’d be a standard American … And then there are things like the eye color. I think people are expecting [her to wear] contacts because Bri’s eyes are blue [in the books]. Everybody will have a different view.”
Personally, we get how there are some loyalists out there to the books who could find some of this problematic. However, we do think that the show has its right to stand on its own from the source material, and we would prefer to have someone chosen for this part based on their performance and chemistry as opposed to whether or not they have the right eye color. As someone who has worn contacts, we wouldn’t ask that of anyone else just for the sake of replicating a part.
We imagine we’ll have so much more when it comes to “Outlander” before the finale, so stay tuned! For now, head over here to take a look at the latest promo for the show!
