‘Big Brother 18’ spoilers: The Battle of the Block is over (for now)

Big Brother -

For all of those out there who complained relentlessly about there being a Battle of the Block the past two seasons on “Big Brother 18,” here’s a slice of great news: You don’t have to worry about it anymore. In a press release on Thursday, the show confirmed that the supposed “fan favorite” twist will not return (at least at first) for the start of the season. In its place will be a new competition on Sundays, but one that has not been fully explained just yet.

As for what this competition could be, maybe it’s a power to help keep someone safe, or maybe it’s a clue to some sort of secret Veto in the house. Ultimately, we hope that it is something less broken than the BotB (which can be easily manipulated), and something that is still making an impact on the game. We’d give anything for a reassurance that there will be something that surpasses the Have / Have-Not Competition when it comes to being valuable in the game.

In a statement, show executive producer Allison Grodner had the following message to pass along that does make us think that some sort of secret power could be possible in this game:

“We are loving how the house theme plays into the twists and turns that the BIG BROTHER Houseguests will face this summer … I don’t want to give too much away, but there are quite a few things in the house that are more than just decorations.”

Meanwhile, let’s go ahead and add this courtesy of fellow EP Rich Meehan:

“This season we’re creating the craziest summer vacation ever inside the BIG BROTHER house. It’s going to be 99 days of twists and turns, with a few secrets along the way. But we’re most looking forward to those moments that even surprise us…because it wouldn’t be BIG BROTHER without unexpected ‘showmances,’ meltdowns and blindsides.”
