NBC’s ‘The Voice’: About Adam Wakefield’s ‘Lonesome Broken and Blue’ original song

Adam Wakefield -Tonight, “The Voice” is doing something a little bit different than the rest of the season, but also something that they’ve done in years past: Given the finalists a chance to really perform something closer to their hearts in an original single. Some of these songs come from multiple different writers / sources, but what we like is that all four artists at least had a part in writing these songs.

For Adam Wakefield, he actually wrote the entirety of his track in “Lonesome Broken and Blue” per Mjsbigblog. It’s a fantastic achievement, and one that should give him further credibility in Nashville.

Upon listening to the iTunes preview of the song, it feels fairly clear that this is going to be an emotional, passionate country ballad with a few notes of blues in here. You’ve got a chorus with a memorable hook, some excellent fiddle usage in here, and of course Adam’s voice front and center in front of all. It’s a really strong original song for him that shows off some of what he does best as an artist, and we have a feeling that it should very much appeal to some of the people who’ve been supporting him this whole time.

We’ve stated for weeks now that we feel like Adam is by and large the favorite to win based on sales and votes so far. Will that end up becoming a reality? That remains to be seen, since he’ll need the support of both his own fans and those who love his coach in Blake Shelton.
