‘Supergirl’ season 2 renewal still not announced as finale looms

Supergirl -Supergirl” is going to be bringing its season 1 finale to the table in a mere matter of hours now, but there’s still one prevailing surprise that we have at the moment: The fact that the show is not secure and safe yet going into the fall.

Why in the world is CBS keeping fans waiting for so long? We’re not sure how comforting this is to many diehard fans out there, but you should know that this is not a phenomenon known specifically to this show alone. The network hasn’t picked up “Limitless,” “Code Black,” “Rush Hour,” or any of their other first-year dramas at the moment. They’re clearly plotting things out still, and that may include seeing how some of their pilots turn out.

Would we be stunned if the Melissa Benoist series is anything but renewed? Definitely. We understand that the ratings are not spectacular anymore, but they do top some other CBS shows and “Supergirl” is a huge source for social-media traffic and magazine headlines. It provides publicity in a way that few other shows do, and we do imagine that this does account for something.

If “Supergirl” is somehow canceled after this season, it may go down as one of the most surprising cancellations that we can remember. This is the sort of show that has the potential still to run for many seasons, provided of course that the numbers stay steady.

Be sure to come back later, as we’ll have our full review of the “Supergirl” finale soon.
