‘Better Call Saul’ season 2 finale and the great Gus Fring mystery
Will Gus Fring appear on the upcoming season 2 finale of “Better Call Saul”? It’s a subject that has been floating around in our head for weeks. It’s something that story-wise makes some sense given that we know Mike Ehrmantraut has a history with the crime lord, and Giancarlo Esposito is so appreciated for his role on “Breaking Bad” that we’re sure viewers would love to see him again.
The appearance of Gus on “Better Call Saul” has been a subject of such intrigue. However, we’ve been hesitant for only one reason: Comments that were made recently at PaleyFest that strongly suggested that there was a character from the original AMC hit that for some time executive producers Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould considered bringing onto the show, but they scrapped the plan at the last-minute after being convinced otherwise by the writers.
Now, we’ve got another interesting clue that there may have at least been a plan to bring Giancarlo Esposito back: A deciphering of the season’s episode titles, which was uncovered in the tweet below (thanks to TVLine for the heads-up). If you rearrange the titles, the first letter in all of them spells out “Fring’s Back.”
Now, if this was a different show, we’d dismiss this and say that this is some sort of grand coincidence. The trick here is that this is “Better Call Saul,” and with Gilligan we like to think that almost nothing is coincidental.

There is zero doubt that Gus Fring is coming back. The only question is when. It’s not just possible, or just likely. He can’t NOT come back, he’s central to Mike’s origin!
