ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8 finale reportedly filming multiple endings

While we’ve felt more and more hopeful as of late that “Castle” will get a renewal for a ninth season (thank steady ratings and a complete collapse elsewhere on ABC as a reason for that), the reality still is that there’s a ton of uncertainty out there. Some people in the cast need new deals, and of course you also have to figure out if the network still thinks there is significant value in the franchise.

With all of these variables in mind, the following bit of news does not shock us in the slightest. Per TVLine, the series is in the process of making several different endings for its eighth season as a means for preparing for whatever the future is. They will have an ending if it turns out to be a season finale, and one if it turns out to be the end of the series. Hopefully, they’ll have their firm answer one way or another before we get around to the finale airing next month.

It does feel fairly clear at this point that we’re in the twilight years of the show, but things creatively have started to turn around now that Castle and Beckett are back together and the show is at least a little closer to its roots. We’d like to see it have at least one more year to have a proper farewell, and something that properly tributes the entire journey of the show. Having a series finale at this point would feel a little bit rushed, especially since so much time is going to be spent attending to LokSat.
