‘The Walking Dead’ season 7: Negan kills ‘beloved character,’ per Robert Kirkman

Lucille -

For whatever reason, “The Walking Dead” decided on Sunday that the best thing that they could do in the aftermath of their big finale was torment as many of their viewers as humanly possible. It’s with that in mind that they gave you the whole “eenie, meanie, minie, mo” cliffhanger with Negan determining who he was going to kill before beating them to a pulp with Lucille.

Of course, everyone wants to know precisely who the deceased could be. There is a school of thought that the producers could remove from the equation a more recent character like Aaron, largely because it’d be an important death while at the same time leaving the core cast intact. However, there are others who think that the show will make a big move. One way or another, it certainly seems as though the creative team knows who is dead.

Speaking on last night’s “Talking Dead” about the deceased (who will probably be revealed in the season 7 premiere), comic creator Robert Kirkman had the following message to pass along:

“As upset as people probably are at Negan’s introduction and how he’s coming in and killing somebody who is very beloved to everyone, [you have to remember] from his perspective, he’s the hero of his story, like most villains. And if we’d been following him this whole time, we’d be 100 percent on board with that.”

We suppose if the character is “very beloved,” maybe this rules out some of the more supporting characters … or at least we’d like to think so. At the moment, we’re going to be sticking with our theory that the deceased is Eugene, given that the guy got the sort of story in the finale that suggested that he finally felt like he was happy and fit in within the group. You know what happens when someone feels comfortable…
