‘Call the Midwife’ season 5, episode 2 preview (PBS): Key story ahead for Charlotte Ritchie’s Barbara

Patsy -On Sunday night the latest premiere for “Call the Midwife,” and with that we saw some few interesting character updates. For example Trixie has found a new distraction to her away from alcohol, while at the same time we also saw a little bit of a good news / bad news scenario play out for Patsy and Delia.

Charlotte Ritchie’s Barbara is the only one of the women pictured above that we have not mentioned, but rest assured that she also has a super-important story on the way this season … though it may take some time for it to really rise to the surface. For now, let’s focus on the synopsis below, which does make it clear that Barbara is going to get involved with a very troubling, difficult case:

“Barbara is stuck between an expectant mother and her dockworker husband; and Sister Evangelina’s opposition to baby formula upsets a new mother who’s unable to breastfeed.”

While we will not give anything major away at the moment regarding what is next on this story, we will say that like many things in Poplar, the situation with the dockworker is far more complicated than it first appears. There are many different layers that are to be uncovered, and we’ll get a great chance to see that play out a little bit over time. Just be sure to stay tuned, as we’ll have some additional updates next weekend about what to expect from this hour.
