‘The Flash’ season 2 spoilers: What surprising person from the past is returning?

FlashIt’s really easy to love “The Flash,” especially when it comes to their knack for surprising people. We saw that earlier this season with the return of the Reverse-Flash, and we’re also going to have a shot to see that once more with Eddie Thawne.

Seriously? That’s right. The CW today revealed the first synopsis for the upcoming March 30 episode entitled “Flash Back,” which makes it very clear that Eddie is going to be making a return appearance … seemingly in the past:

“After the shocking revelation that Zoom is Jay Garrick, Barry is more determined than ever to get back to Earth-2 to stop Zoom forever. Desperate to find a way to increase his speed, Barry decides to travel back in time and masquerade as his earlier self in order to get his arch-nemesis, Dr. Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne, to teach him how to run faster. However, things don’t go as planned and Barry is stunned to face familiar foe Hartley Rathaway (guest star Andy Mientus), as well as old friend Eddie Thawne (guest star Rick Cosnett). Iris makes peace with her past in order to embrace her future.”

It is nice to see that Cosnett is getting a shot at returning, given that we last saw him on “Quantico” before his character there was killed off. (Sadly, this just seems to be a trend when it comes to characters he plays.) We hope that he gets a few opportunities to give Eddie more closure, even if these scenes happen in the timeline before the ones that we’re getting in the present.

Oh, and we don’t want to diminish the return of Hartley here either, given that he is an interesting, hyper-intelligent villain who adds something to the show.
