‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12, episode 10 reaction: The truth about Riggs, Owen’s past revealed

Riggs -

While we know that there are a variety of different events that we ended up seeing play out on “Grey’s Anatomy” Thursday night, including Meredith Grey’s own quest for healing, we want to focus in here for the most part on a single topic: The mystery surrounding Owen and Riggs, and whether or not the two are starting to get over the issues that are buried in their past.

At least now, we know what some of those issues are. During the episode in a conversation with Amelia, Kevin McKidd’s character made it clear that Riggs is someone that he and his sister both knew from med school, and that his sister fell in love with him. However, something happened to cause her death, and Riggs was there on that day and he forever blames him for what transpired. This was a narrative that was somewhat-easy to guess, but at the same time, we appreciate that it is not something more complicated than this. This is something that we see people go through in real life on a pretty constant basis.

As for whether or not the two are fully past it, right now we’d answer that question with a “no.” However, at the same exact time we think that they are starting to at least move in that direction. Owen called for him during surgery, and he is showing some essence of confidence in his abilities as a doctor. Hopefully, this too shall pass, and they can start to rekindle a friendship that they once had.

For now, let’s just call this one of the more effective reveals that the series has done in some time.
