2016 Super Bowl Commercials: Alec Baldwin, Dan Marino, team up with Amazon Echo

Super Bowl -Following the performance of Coldplay, Beyonce, and Bruno Mars at the Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday night, we were certainly ready to move on to what was the next great thing: More commercials! Specifically, we’re talking about one for Amazon Echo that featured Alec Baldwin, Dan Marino, and a wide array of other super-famous people. Jason Schwartzman’s got throwing skills, Missy Elliott has music, and hey, you can at least say that Dan Marino seems like he’s having a good time.

But is this ad really that effective? That’s something that may be up for debate, and it is something that we’re going to be discussing below. (You can see the ad for yourself at the bottom of this article.)

What worked – Great casting across the board. You cannot dispute the presence that Baldwin and company bring to the table, and this commercial is both sophisticated and also sleek. There’s good good moments, as well, though it’s never incredibly funny.

What didn’t – Was the ad a little long? We wonder, since this aired right after halftime and if Amazon really wanted to keep viewers around rather than going for some more snacks, they probably needed something that was snappier and extremely over-the-top.

Grade – B-. This ad was not a disaster by any means, since the star power was tremendous. We just think the brand messaging could have been a little bit stronger, and there needs to be some more consideration by Amazon in terms of where their ad is going to air.
