2016 Super Bowl commercials: Hyundai gets Kevin Hart to play father-stalker

Kevin Hart -

Who doesn’t love Kevin Hart? He’s one of the biggest names working right now, and when you consider that, you cannot be shocked that Hyundai is using him for one of their biggest ads on Super Bowl Sunday. We’ve got the video for you at the bottom of this article; read on for our review and click here to see some other spots!

The idea – Kevin Hart hands the keys of his car to his daughter’s date, allowing them to have a night on the town. From here, he uses the car finder to stalk them as they go around town before the date brings his daughter home, terrified. The message? If you’re an extremely over-protective father, the Hyundai Genesis might be the right car for you.

What works – For the most part Hart is always going to be a crowd-pleaser. He’s recognizable, funny, and appeals to a variety of different demographics. Also, if the goal of Hyundai was to show what the car can do, they probably succeeded with that.

What doesn’t – This whole idea of “I’m watching the new boyfriend” has been done so many times in the past. Also, we understand that it’s fine to use a celebrity to endorse a fairly affordable product for mass-market, but we found it distracting that Kevin would be cruising around in a Hyundai when he’s got millions of dollars.

Overall Grade – C+. Hart does his best with the material, but the tired premise keeps this from being nearly as funny as it could be. We’d find it so much funnier if he was using his car finder for a much more ridiculous reason.
