‘The Flash’ spoilers: Prepare for more Gorilla Grodd in season 3

FlashGorilla Grodd is one of the signature villains from The Flash comic books, but to date on the TV version, he’s been relegated to just a few appearances here and there. We imagine that part of the problem here is simply that Grodd is expensive to make, and he’s also someone who has not yet reached his full level of power.

However, this could be changing … but maybe not until “The Flash” season 3 comes on the air. Speaking per Collider this weekend at The CW’s TCA Winter Press Tour, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg teased that this character is someone who still has a big role, but they are being established more as a slow burn:

“I would liken the Gorilla City thing to Ra’s al Ghul. You know, you hear about ‘the man from Nanda part’ in ‘[Arrow’] Season 1, and ‘the man who showed Malcolm the way.’ … And then you met Nyssa, then in Season 3 you met Ra’s. So, it’s a long-term thing.”

We’re still not sure that we see Grodd ever becoming the show’s Big Bad, if for no other reason than that using him for more than a few episodes would probably cause the budget to balloon completely out of control. Still, we’d be down for a three or four-episode arc featuring the character, similar in some ways to how “Arrow” used Brick on the show during its third season while Oliver Queen worked to get himself back to what was then Starling City. It’d give us more of the Grodd mythology, and you can still keep the character alive after that to give him some more space in future stories.
