‘Call the Midwife’ season 5: The tone, spirit of the Christmas Special

Call the Midwife -

In less than a week from now, “Call the Midwife” is going to be coming on the air for its latest Christmas Special … and let’s just say that the anticipation is rather high for it. These specials always tend to have a lot of love and passion in them, but to go along with that, there are also many sad moments where you wonder whether everyone is capable of having a Merry Christmas. It’s a complicated show like that, one stuffed to the brim with an assortment of bittersweet endings.

If you are interested in getting some more news in regards to the tone and the feel of the story moving forward, take a look at what Laura Main (Shelagh) had to say on the subject in an interview with the Express:

“Most of us are back for series five. It’s always evolving and every year the tone of it changes, but it’s still made with love and care … Call The Midwife can be tough to watch at times and really upsetting, and then there’s lightness and hope in there as well. I just adore Heidi’s Christmas script – it’s full of joy and I just think it’s perfect for Christmas.”

Typically there aren’t too many specific story threads that carry over from the special to the new season, but we’re okay with that for the most part. All we really want in here are some stories that draw emotion out of us and make us grateful to be where we are on December 25. This series excels at many things, but this feeling really tops the list.
