‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 3 winter finale preview: Clark Gregg on Coulson’s Ward problem

Coulson -Going into Tuesday night’s winter finale for Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD,” one thing feels pretty clear: It’s personal at this point for Phil Coulson. Rosalind is dead, and he feels a certain amount of responsibility for giving Grant Ward any sort of power at all before his allegiance became clear. Now the mad is leading Hydra, and there is a showdown looming on an alien world. Much of the winter finale will be taking place there.

So is Coulson really ready to kill someone like Ward, and take a more daring step than we are accustomed to seeing from him? As Clark Gregg explained in a preview video to TVLine, this is something that he could consider, mostly because of the fact

“I think Coulson really tries hard not to cross the line that would make him a little too similar to the people he’s trying to stop as head of S.H.I.E.L.D., and he’s walked that line carefully. But what became clear in [Episode] 309 is the body count, the injury count, that has added up since he put Ward on his team, and since the emergence of HYDRA. It is really weighing heavily on him, and it’s what I like about what the writers have done here with the midseason finale. They’ve forced Coulson into a place where he has to cross a line I don’t think he’s ever crossed before.”

Could Ward really die? We’d be surprised, mostly because Brett Dalton has been such a huge part of the show and with a weakened Hydra, who would SHIELD have to fight? This is something that the show has to figure out, but with claims that this may be the most surprising episode of the show ever, you have to be prepared for almost anything to happen in this episode.
