‘Call the Midwife’ season 5: First Christmas Special details!

Patsy -The BBC is going to be ringing in Christmas Day this year in the same dramatic way as always, and that is by giving you as robust and varied a lineup of holiday specials as humanly possible. This includes “Call the Midwife,” one of the most-watched shows on British TV, and one that is especially out right now to deliver on a varied, layered story that brings in the holiday spirit while at the same time preserving the tone of the show. This is a bittersweet series in many ways; while they do often tell many happier tales, they at the same time have a tendency to place them in a sea of emotion where terrible things often happy.

As a part of their lengthy Christmas press release today, the network unveiled a short teaser for what you can expect from the special in terms of the story. Take a look below:

“Call the Midwife delivers another much loved Christmas special. As Poplar readies itself for Christmas 1960, Nonnatus House is rocked when Sister Monica Joan goes missing.”

The series will have a challenge ahead of it trying to replicate the success and the originality of the Christmas Special last year. That particular event marked the appearance of Vanessa Redgrave as an older Jennifer Worth, and it gave some closure to that story following the departure of Jessica Raine at the end of the third season. While we know that Chummy will not be in the upcoming season, it does not look like the show is looking for a way to create equal closure.
