‘The Leftovers’ season 2, episode 8 preview: Is there any hope left for Kevin Garvey?

One way or another, we have to give a little bit of credit to “The Leftovers” on HBO for having some of the most guts out of any TV show we’ve seen. While the odds are certainly high that Kevin Garvey somehow finds his way out of this actual-death situation, the question that we are probably meant to ask moving into the next episode Sunday is what the ramifications are going to be. While the character can certainly be brought back, you have to assume that with this move comes consequences … and these are things that the cast of characters are going to have to be okay with.

“International Assassin”  is the title for the next new episode of the show, which is a particularly strange one when you think that so far, the only real assassin seems to be Virgil, the isolated man who gave Kevin precisely what he needed to die … but only at his request. The synopsis below is not particularly engaging:

“In the wake of Kevin’s desperate decision to vanquish Patti, questions and answers emerge as the world adjusts to the repercussions of what comes next.”

When it comes to Justin Theroux’s character, the biggest thing to be excited about is the aftermath from the end of the episode, which is when we watched Michael drag him out of the cabin, while leaving Virgil’s body exactly where it was. As for what he has planned for it, that remains the biggest mystery at the moment … but we imagine that there is only so much time Kevin can be brought back before he is gone once and for all.
