‘Sleepy Hollow’ season 3 fall finale: Is a major character dead?

“Sleepy Hollow” aired its last episode of the year, and also its last on Thursday night for at least this season (pending a change) earlier tonight … and with that, they also dropped the biggest surprise of the season in allowing one of their major characters to potentially die. (Obviously, spoilers ahead!)

So is Abbie Mills gone? It doesn’t look good, given that she made a bold, desperate move to place the orb within the trunk of Pandora’s tree before it exploded. She saved both Jenny and really all of Sleepy Hollow with this move, but in the process, maybe took her own life.

Of course, executive producer Clifton Campbell is not saying one way or another if Nicole Beharie is really done on the show, but he did pass along the following message to TVLine:

“She makes the decision to save her sister and save Crane and what Team Witness was all about. We don’t quite know where she goes. It’s very disturbing to see her disappear in that way. The astute viewer will notice that there have been things about the tree, the lair and the story we’ve been telling in the first half [of the season] that will suggest what fate Abbie may have met… It’s going to be very daunting and very illuminating when we all realize what happened to her.”

If we had to guess, we’d say that Abbie is still going to be sticking around in one way or another. Obviously, this show has taught us that dead rarely means that you are actually gone, and given that season 3 could be the show’s last, this bold move could set up the endgame.
