‘The Flash’ season 2, episode 7 spoilers: What’s next for Barry and Patty?
Ultimately, what could end up dooming Barry’s relationship with Patty is something that is not even remotely her fault, and that is the secret he is still harboring about his alter ego. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Grant Gustin makes it clear that his character is using the same philosophy when it comes to The Flash that he initially did with both Linda and Iris:
“He’s trying to tiptoe around it without blatantly lying to Patty at first, which creates some awkward situations … Barry’s a little bit better at lying this year than he was last year. He’s been doing it longer. He’s getting used to lying to people that he loves to try to keep them safe. The idea of telling her is bouncing around in his head in the near future, but he doesn’t really know how to approach it. He’s not sure, so mostly he’s just thinking about it. He’s not even thinking of ways to tell her at this point. He knows it’s kind of inevitable if they stay together, but I don’t think he’s ready to tell her yet. We’re going to see him trying to tiptoe around it and lie some.”
Logically, it also makes sense for Barry to be a little guarded in regards to this secret for a while longer. You have to remember that this is someone who trusted his personal hero Harrison Wells with every fabric of his being, only to learn later that he was out to destroy him. He would and should be a little guarded of anyone else he comes into contact with. While Patty seems benevolent, who’s to say that is fact?
