The return of “Pretty Little Liars” is coming on January 12, but thankfully ABC Family (or Freeform, whatever you want to call the network) is doing a very nice job of giving us new footage here and there of the Liars five years removed from their high school graduation.
In the sneak peek below, you can see Sasha Pieterse, Shay Mitchell, and many other cast members do their part to explain some of the new dynamics of the show, and how moving forward beyond “A” changes things … to a certain extent. The irony here is that the reason that Aria, Emily, Spencer, and Hanna are back in Rosewood is to give some sort of statements, and apparently Alison wants them to lie for her one last time. Why? That answer should become clear soon enough.
One other thing that the video reveals is that whatever the new threat is, there will be similarities between it and the threat that we have seen the Liars face in the past. Whoever the new villain is seems to enjoying sending text messages in the same exact way that “A” did, with the difference being that nobody is signing a name onto these. As Aria points out, though, these women are well-equipped to handle it! Nobody’s had the unique experience of having to battle a mysterious foe quite like them.
One last thing that we’ll say about this video is that if you are a fan of Aria and Ezra, you may be a little worried about their future just based on the latter’s behavior here. Since when did Mr. Fitz get so angry?
