‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12, episode 5 video: Meredith flashes back after seeing Penny

If you needed any further evidence that Meredith’s dinner party on “Grey’s Anatomy” Thursday night is not going to go according to plan, we feel like the sneak peek below is all of the evidence you need and then some.

In this preview, you see that from the very moment that Meredith sees Penny and then a picture of Derek, everything comes back from over a year ago (in the timeline of the show). This is the woman whose mistakes cost Derek her life, and Meredith made it clear to her that this is something that she is going to have to live with. So while Callie is trying to happily introduce her to her friends, Meredith is off hiding Derek’s picture. Even introducing her to Arizona is suddenly not as awkward by comparison.

Given that this is Meredith’s party, we do think that eventually, she will have to tackle this issue head-on … but how? We don’t think that this is something she will be able to move past easily, even if she wants to for the sake of making everyone happy. It’s just such a deep-seeded emotional hurt that she is going to feel anytime that she sees this woman.

We’ll have some more news related to this episode as we near it coming on the air, but for now, it’s looking like this will be easily the most dramatic installment of the season to date.
