MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 5, episode 4 preview: The fallout of a bromance

“Awkward” likes to take a funny look at typical high school situations, and there is something very entertaining right now about the downfall of Matty and Jake’s friendship. These two have a great history of great memories, but we are at the moment seeing them in really their worst position since season 2, when the show had both of them vying for Jenna Hamilton’s heart.

This time around, the issue is much more severe since we are talking about Jake and Gabby hooking up while she was dating Matty. Can they ever move past this? It’s going to be hard, and one of the biggest things that Matty is going to have to do is come to terms with the fact that he is in some ways responsible for what happened with Gabby in the first place. That is going to be a particularly difficult thing to get him to admit to. He was neglecting her, and it is pretty clear that his heart is with Jenna. It doesn’t excuse her actions, but he has to recognize some fault.

As for the sneak peek below, it’s mostly just funny because we have a chance to see how Matty’s new friend (one of the fellow members of the unpopular community) comes to his defense. All of a sudden, it’s like he has a bodyguard for unpopular situations.

There are still several episodes this summer, and we feel that in that time, there is a little bit of time for these two to become friendly again. We’ll just have to wait and see if that transpires.
