‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 17 spoilers: Whoopi Goldberg, Virginia Madsen sign on
Given how iconic Whoopi Goldberg is as an entertainer, and also how she is centrally located in New York, it’s a real surprise to us mostly that she has not appeared on “Law & Order: SVU” before right now. (She has played a part previously on “Criminal Minds,” which is in the same universe … but that was a long time ago and she is not
So who is she going to play on an upcoming season 17 episode? According to a new report from E! News, she is going to be playing the part of Janette Grayson, a Department of Child Services supervisor who lands in hot water over allegations of fake reports. This is going to be a particularly meaty story, one that will more than likely worthy of Whoopi’s talents.
Just in case this news is not enough for you, may we also suggest the following: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Virginia Madsen is coming on board the show in order to play the role of Rollins’ mother. We are expecting an even larger role for her this season, for a number of different reasons. First and foremost, with Danny Pino gone we expect other people to step up. Also, Kelli Giddish is expecting her first child, and we are going to get a chance to see early on if that ends up getting written into the show in some capacity.
The new season is going to premiere in just one week’s time, and we are going to have some other news every step of the way. Stay tuned.

The only way I can see Virginia Madsen being in more than one episodes is if Amanda’s sister dies when she and her Mother come to visit Amanda. Otherwise, how can Amanda trust her Mother at all? With anything? Especially her baby? Since this is Warren Leight’s last season(and maybe the last season of SVU), I guess JUMPING THE SHARK doesn’t matter. Episodes can be as preposterous as they want to be. if Amanda’s brain is going on shutdown when her sister and mom visit, and she doesn’t have her sister arrested immediately(there is a warrant out for her arrest) this show may become unwatchable in a hurry. Especially since the only reason I’m watching it now is for Kelli Giddish.

I’m wondering when they will have the episode with Rollins’s mother and sister. I thought that would be the episode that would get Kelli Giddish off the show for a few weeks to have her baby, but Kelli may have her baby before the episode is made. There will be a lot of pressure on SVU this season. There will be a lot more episodes of EMPIRE this season, and SVU didn’t do well against EMPIRE. Criminal Minds is also a problem for SVU. if the show doesn’t finish in the TV GUIDE TOP 50, will NBC cancel it? Can they afford to cancel it? Warren Leight is leaving after this season, and everyone(including Mariska) will be looking for more money. It should be interesting.
