‘The X-Files’ spoilers: Show boss on big Mulder / Scully decision
While fans are finally getting back more of “The X-Files” after so many years waiting, it is not exactly going to be the same show that they remember. After all, Mulder and Scully are no longer together! They were one of the more celebrated couples on TV at one time, even though the relationship was sometimes secondary to what the two were doing in terms of their missions.
So why make this particular decision at the moment? This is something that many fans have wondered, and it is something that show creator Chris Carter describes with the following comment to The Hollywood Reporter:
“We do [the split] in an interesting way … We play with that relationship [in the event series]. We put some of the tension back in that was relieved by them being together. It added to the storytelling opportunities. It’s something that I came up with; I had been thinking about it. There was always talk of [breaking them up] if we did another movie.”
No one is really saying with 100% certainty that this is going to be the end of the pair’s relationship, so we really don’t think that you should look at this as something that is for sure permanent. They are just going to have to try to navigate their relationship further, figure out where they stand, and also where they are going to go from here.
For those who have not heard just yet, the six-episode revival will premiere after the NFC Championship Game on Fox January 24. It’s also going to be screening early at New York Comic-Con, and you can head over here to get some more news all about that.
