‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 spoilers: ‘Girls,’ ‘Downton Abbey’ alumni cast
Richard E. Grant has surely had many a great opportunity as of late to appear in quality shows, whether those shows are “Girls,” “Downton Abbey,” or something else entirely. Now, we’re pleased to say that he has added “Game of Thrones” to his impressive resume.
Of course, for the time being most details about the part are scarce. All we can say is that he has been identified, and that it is possible he is playing someone familiar to book readers … just as it is possible he’s playing someone new to everyone. You see, we’re concerned that the ninja-assassins over at HBO will come and hunt us down in the event we start to hand down some more information on this.
Season 6 is currently filming across several different parts of Europe, most notably Northern Ireland and Spain. The show is shying away from Croatia this year for one reason or another, despite frequenting it in the years before. It will air at some point in the spring.
For the most part, it is rare for the show to cast actors who are already well-known or familiar in some capacity, and that is why we’ve been somewhat surprised that they would be able to get Grant on board. Then again, they have also cast this season a few other notable names, including Freddie Stroma (“UnREAL”) in the part of Sam’s brother. Clearly, we’re going to get more of that character’s backstory this time around as we see what happens to him following his time with the Night’s Watch. (You are also going to meet Euron Greyjoy on the show this season.)
