ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5 spoilers: Is Olivia Pope really in a better place?
The end of “Scandal” season 4 likely felt for some fans like an opportunity to scream to the heavens in joy. After so much time spent waiting to see whether or not Olivia and Fitz would get together in some sort of meaningful way, it’s finally happened … or so it seems. The President sent the First Lady away, and Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn’s characters embraced in a way that they really have not before now, almost with a reckless abandon about themselves.
Obviously, there is some joy and adulation that comes from this moment for the two, but you also have to think about the downside. Remember all of those rumors about an affair? They’ll probably come back if the public realizes that the two are together. Not only that, but then you have Jake Ballard to think about, the wrath of Mellie if she wants to attack him, and if they decide to keep it hidden to a certain degree, then even more steps will need to be taken.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, show creator Shonda Rhimes notes that as a result of this change, “Olivia finds that every single thing about her life has changed in unexpected ways.” Is that really a good thing? That is to be seen. Throughout her encounters with Fitz over the years she’s got a chance to experience the romance and the passion that the two share, but rarely has she had to experience the public scrutiny save for a short span of time.
While this could at times be torture for Olivia to go through, we imagine that it will be very much entertaining for us as viewers.
