‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 7 spoilers: How Michael Weatherly enters the fray
It has been known for some time (really since the spring, actually) that Michael Weatherly would be crossing over from the flagship “NCIS” for a guest spot on “NCIS: Los Angeles,” but we have not really received to much in the way of insight on just why he is there … at least not until now.
So how is he going to arrive in Los Angeles for this upcoming season? Speaking per TVLine, executive producer Shane Brennan claims that it comes via “a classic DiNozzo moment in which he’s in Los Angeles to pick someone up from an airplane and, goodness me, they’re not there. He’s about to be in serious trouble with his superiors, so he needs the help of our team in L.A. to find the person he was supposed to pick up.”
It’s a simple enough reason to start a story, and that is really all you need sometimes! We’re fine with the writers / producers keeping things simple, since we really feel like the fun from this appearance is really going to come out of such things as seeing how Tony interacts with some of the other characters on the show, and getting out of his typical element in the Los Angeles sunshine.
There’s also a meta component of this crossover that is probably pretty fun for him. The flagship “NCIS” also films in Los Angeles, but they have to spend the majority of their time pretending that they are in Washington DC. It’s a phenomenon that other shows like “Scandal” are definitely familiar with.

Sounds interesting. I really love all of the characters on NCIS-LA. The story lines are sometimes a little weak but the characters are great. Since Michael Weatherly’s strong suit is his comedic timing, this should be fun. The witty banter is one of the best things about NCIS-LA. Insert DiNozzo and it should be a treat. Another plus is that Shane Brennan knows how to write for Weatherly. The current regime has let him stand around without much to do for two years. It should be a nice change to see him front and center.

Let me get that right… Hes there to pickup a Suspect but the suspect isnt on the plane? err.. hmm okay.
So naturally its Tony’s fault and he has to get help to clean up the mess.

I don’t normally watch LA but I’ll definitely make an exception to see Weatherly. Maybe he’ll actually have something to do as he doesn’t do much on the mothership anymore. I hope they don’t write him as stupid or incompetent though – just funny.
