‘Game of Thrones’ celebrates new record before entering season 6
The sixth season of “Game of Thrones” is not going to be premiering on HBO until next year, but before that happens, it turns out that there is another cause for celebration: A Guinness World Record.
This week, it was announced by the organization (read more here) that the show had set a world record for the largest TV drama simulcast ever. 173 countries showed the season 5 premiere live earlier this year, which is more than any other show of the genre in the past. This move was of course planned for the sake of big headlines first and foremost, but even beyond that this it was just a move to try and limit piracy. This show is routinely one of the most-stolen on all of TV year in and year out, and this is something that HBO is still battling even after launching its HBO NOW service in the United States.
Maisie Williams a.k.a. Arya Stark was the one selected to be presented with the World Record, and in a statement she said the following:
“I’m so pleased for Game of Thrones to be a part of Guinness World Records, I’m going to tell my step brother as he gets the book every year for Christmas. I can’t wait to see the look on his face!”
New episodes of “Game of Thrones” are going to premiere more than likely in the spring, and hopefully we are going to get a chance to see it break another record in the near future. We’ll have to wait and see…
