‘Big Brother 17’ review: Nominations and not much else
Tonight’s “Big Brother 17” episode certainly was a capital B for Boring, if for no other reason than that they really had to milk a slow few days into a 60-minute show.
What also did not help them here was that they had to edit together a Head of Household Competition that was actually longer on the show tonight than it was on the feeds for the most part. Hopefully, at least seeing the outcome here will help to convince people that there was no conspiracy and Vanessa wasn’t given preferential treatment. (Let’s all groan now at all of the people wanting to make constant petitions over it.)
Vanessa put up James and Meg as expected for those of you feed-watchers, and there was very little drama other than hearing more about how much the twins hate Johnny Mac. Even though we got some diary rooms from all of the jurors, none of them were that interesting.
As for some other highlights from tonight…
1. The whole “James scaring people” game continued tonight in the form of Julia scaring Austin, apparently as some sort of practice for eventually getting James back. Good luck with that.
2. Yes, Liz and Austin are now official … and completely oblivious to the fact that the majority of America hates them. We feel like it’s easier for a showmance to stay together if they are beloved in the real world (see Jeff and Jordan), but it is so much harder if you are not particularly well-liked.
There’s some great stuff happening later this week on “Big Brother,” so let’s just look forward to that instead of taking about tonight. Grade: C.

So, have Liz and Austin really made it “official”? All along, their relationship has seemed to be a strategic showmance for advancing them through the game (so far, the ploy’s been effective). When Austin asked Liz to be his girlfriend and she accepted, the whole scene came across as awkward and scripted. I’m guessing that this pair is trying to land a place on “Amazing Race” or “Survivor.”
Would someone PLEASE breakup Austwin and bring Liz and Julia back to earth? They were sweet and friendly back in June. Now, they’re so convinced of their invulnerability, they’ve turned into high school Mean Girls. All they do is win favors at the popular kids’ lunch table while saying nasty things about the other kids.
