‘MasterChef’ season 6, episode 17 preview: The final five meet past champions

There are not many times on “MasterChef” where the show actually does something different. For example, there’s always a Pressure Test or two about cooking some sort of a cake, there’s some obligatory excuse for Gordon Ramsay to wear flannel during a challenge, and we always get at least one restaurant-style challenge where the home cooks have to pretend that they are on “Hell’s Kitchen” for some reason.

What we do like very much at the moment about next week’s new episode is that there seems to be some sort of willingness in here to at least try to do something different than usual on the show, and it involves bringing back multiple contestants in some capacity. Maybe they are being judges, or they are going to cook some sort of sample themselves? It’s hard to say, but these three are none other than Luca, Courtney, and Christine. They’re all very good at what they do, and they all come from very different walks of life.

As for the remaining home cooks, we’re looking at the moment at a roster that includes Katrina, Claudia, Nick, Stephen, and Derrick. It’s a pretty balanced field, and we could see almost anyone left winning in the end. Katrina seems like she is a really great person and would be a good winner; at the same time, Stephen is just so insanely entertaining that he could actually have some sort of career in television after this.
