‘Chicago PD’ season 3 spoilers: Voight forced to confront his past

Chicago PDThrough some various storylines on “Chicago PD” over the past two seasons, we’ve come to learn something very clear about the character of Voight: This is not a guy with a tendency to perpetually do the right thing. He does want justice, but there are times ways that he goes about it that are dangerous and beyond the job description.

Sometimes, past mistakes do come back to haunt this guy, and it seems like this could be one of the things that will surface early on in the upcoming third season. As executive producer Matt Olmstead says in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, there is in particular going to be one man coming up who really makes this character take a hard look at what he has done in the past, and he may not like too much of what he sees:

“Down the road, a convict gets out of prison that he put away, in his mind, justifiably … The reason this guy gets out of prison is there’s a little bit of a glitch in what was reported back then years and years ago because he was dealing with, ironically, Lindsay and her mom. It really shows what kind of cop Voight was back then. His past is paraded in front of him, whether he likes it or not.”

Do we think that Voight is a much better cop now than he probably was many years ago? Sure, but the thing with him is that sometimes, old habits are really hard to break. This is something that he is probably going to continue to struggle with throughout the course of the remainder of the series:
