‘Big Brother 17’ review: Becky’s big move: Steve’s breakout hour

steveSunday night, “Big Brother” brought us an episode that was for the most part extremely entertaining, if for no other reason than that we finally got to tie up some loose ends, and we saw the whole fight that was started out of misinformation. Clay started spreading the news about Johnny Mac in a way that was to try and protect him, only it completely backfired. The aggressive way in which Vanessa approached all of this was, in so many words, awful. She made herself a bigger target, and she has been the person who has went to the tears far too many times. Nobody takes them that seriously anymore.

So when Becky won Head of Household, setting up a plan to nominate Shelli and Steve with a Vanessa backdoor in mind was smart. It allows her some flexibility, and she can try out a variety of different things moving forward depending on what she feels like. We still don’t think she is a great game-player; she figured out a smart move to make, but went about doing it poorly with giving out information and not acting remotely strategic.

Now, let’s also take a moment or two to discuss Steve, mostly because of the fact that the guy really had quite the breakout episode this past week. He got a chance to have more confessionals than he’s had in weeks, and we got more of his perspective. He was worried about being sent home from Becky, and he’s close to Johnny Mac and Vanessa.

Also, the segment about his awkward behavior around the house was pretty priceless.

As we said, a fun episode. Of course, the less we say about Austin in the Diary room and the Clay / Shelli romance, the better. Grade: B+.
