‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers: Katherine Heigl return definitely not happening

Grey's AnatomyIs it possible that “Grey’s Anatomy” season 12 could finally contain that Katherine Heigl return that so many people want to see? Well, we’ve got an answer for you, but it is probably not one that you are going to like.

While at the TCA Summer Press Tour earlier this week, creator Shonda Rhimes definitively nixed to TVLine the idea of getting more of Dr. Izzie Stevens on the show, though she did at least admit that it was an idea that had been at least pondered by her at various points:

“I’m done with that story. I’ve turned that idea over in my mind a thousand times and thought about how it would go. And I don’t think so.”

We are in the camp that thinks it would be nice to see Izzie back on the show again, but mostly for the sake of nostalgia more so than anything else. We don’t actually think that there is a need to give any more closure for her and Alex, since so much of that story already feels like it is said and done.

Ultimately, though, it just seems as thought Rhimes has not thought of a reason to bring her back yet that supersedes any reason to not bring her back that she has thought of. We don’t think it will ever happen, and if it does, it will probably not be until we get to the final season of the show and it’s just for some sort of victory lap so that most of the original cast can get back together. (Granted, it’ll be hard for Patrick Dempsey’s Derek to join them in the present.)
