Are we going to see Punisher lay out some serious punishment on “Daredevil” season 2? It’s probably going to be a long time before you get anything close to definitive information when it comes to that, but early indications definitely seem to suggest that the classic Marvel character is going to get into some serious altercations with Matt Murdock at some point before the upcoming batch of episodes comes to a close in 2016.
According to a report from Nerdist News, new co-showrunner Marco Ramirez is quietly referring to the second season as “Daredevil vs. the Punisher” … and there was much rejoicing. We’re not entirely sure that it is as simple as that the Punisher is going to becoming a Big Bad sort of character like Kingpin for this show, but we feel like it is very clear that these two iconic characters are not often going to be on the same page.
Also, there is one other super-important thing to remember here: Jon Bernthal was cast to play Punisher! You’re not going to recruit an actor with his resume to play a role that will be trivial in the grand scheme of things. He has to play an integral part of the story to be effective, especially since Marvel has been sitting on him ever since the last attempt to launch a film franchise around the character.
Ultimately, let’s just remind ourselves here that TV ended up being a much better venue for Daredevil than the big screen, and it could be true once again here. Also, we’re still holding out for a Punisher show in due time.
