‘The Bachelorette’: Will Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Snapchat spoiler impact show’s success?

Kaitlyn -Let us once again start this “Bachelorette” article with a warning: There are some spoilers ahead based on a headline from over the weekend. Obviously, read on at your own discretion.

To a certain extent, spoilers have always been a part of the franchise, but of course in the new Reality Steve era, spoilers are prominent. We don’t have an accurate estimate of just how many average viewers of the show are spoiled, mostly because of the fact that we still imagine that the majority of them are not looking up information on the show at the times in which it is not airing. We would guess that for the most part, the majority of the viewing public either doesn’t know who wins the season while watching, or doesn’t care. Sometimes, it doesn’t feel that way so much online because the voices you are hearing from are those who have seen the spoilers. They’re hard to avoid, especially when you are a writer and you are always dealing with commenters posting “this person wins” or “this person goes home.”

However, Kaitlyn Bristowe accidentally posting herself in bed with Shawn Booth on Snapchat is something a little bit different. It’s definitely her and it definitely seems to be Shawn, and all signs point to this being a major good on her part that gives away the end of the competition. While we still don’t think every viewer of the show is aware of this, more may be than the average season where we have just the Reality Steve spoilers.

The question that we wonder is this: Will this impact viewership of the show at all? With Steve there is always the hope that maybe his spoilers are wrong, and there is some ambiguity (though he seems to be right the vast majority of the time). Then again, with Kaitlyn it’s always possible that this is all some elaborate prank designed to make us think one way, or it is still possible that Shawn doesn’t win, and yet she decides to get with him after the fact.

We just feel in the end like this is not going to impact ratings at all. This may just fuel the Nick Viall haters more, and allow people to pay even more attention to Shawn’s narrative. Anyhow, we’re going to find out Monday, but all of the other spoilers over the years haven’t seemed to make any impact at all.
