‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 debate: Is there any redeeming Zelena?
Now that we know that Rebecca Mader has been promoted to series regular for the upcoming fifth season of “Once Upon a Time,” and with that, isn’t it time for the floodgates of speculation to start to open a little bit?
Zelena is a very interesting character on the show, first and foremost because of how obvious it is that she is intelligent … fiercely so, even. She is capable of great evil, and concocting plans like the one that she did to try to take away her sister’s happiness courtesy of Robin Hood. Now, just imagine how useful she could be if she used some of those powers for good instead of evil. This is a show that really does like to stress that there are very few people who are “too far gone” from doing the right thing. We’ve seen Regina make the change, and we’re also seeing Rumpelstiltskin on his way to something now that he no longer is the Dark One. We know that Zelena was not born terrible, and she mostly became this way out of jealousy and rage over being forgotten in various ways.
With all of this said, it’s going to be hard for this character to turn around at this point, especially given the resume of all that she has done. Maybe a child could turn her around and start to make her consider her choices, but it wasn’t like she really decided to get pregnant because she wanted the kid. Instead, it was more about what the child represented. She’s more interesting because she is not 100% evil, but at this point we can’t imagine anyone thinking that she is anything else. That good that was once in her is now so far buried under hate and anger.
Whatever happens to Zelena, it should be fascinating. The promotion itself proves that the producers have huge plans.

I think Zelena can be redeemed, but I think she should gradually change. The reason Regina is such a great hero is because she evolved overtime. Though I hope Zelena will change, and that she will be a good parent. Because she felt unloved by Cora and her drunk father I doubt she will be a horrible parent.

You know I think Zelena could able to redeem herself since she have many misfortune and their times she do receive second chance thank to her half sister Regina and again her life been spared from great mercy of her sister. I believe that maybe deep down that Zelena is grateful and created by good eventually along she make good choices that soon great sliver lining will come to her just like Regina did!

I really hope not. I think she’s brilliant as an evil (or should I say wicked) and completely bonkers villain. To make Zelena a ‘hero’ would be quite a boring change imo, one which would perhaps feel overdone, given what they-ve done brilliantly with RRegina and now Gold. Regina is hilarious either way, but I think Zelena needs to stay as a coniving psychopath who will do anything to make Regina miserable.

I agree. She has been my favorite villain on the show because she is truly a villain. Keep her bad.
