‘The Originals’ season 3 spoilers: Riley Voelkel promoted to regular

Originals -In many ways, the writing was on the wall for Riley Voelkel when it comes to her future on “The Originals.” Given that Claire Holt and Maisie Richardson-Sellers are both busy with other projects, The CW and the show’s producers clearly want there to at least be one female member of the Mikaelson clan on the show for an extended period of time. Therefore, we are pleased to report that, per TVLine, Freya will be sticking around. Voelkel will be a series regular for the upcoming third season.

So why keep Freya after this crazy season? As executive producer Michael Narducci makes it clear, one of the biggest motivations is that she will allow the show to have at least someone else around to potentially play off of Klaus and Hayley, and she will have a role in raising baby Hope to go along with that:

“Freya is going to stick around and help raise [Hope] … She’s allowing Rebekah the chance to go have a life by sticking around. I’m really excited to see what role this new sister is going to have in the family and how she may play off of both of her brothers. I’m really excited about that family dynamic.”

The third season of the show is coming to the network this fall, and we imagine that there will somehow still find a way to be a ton of family drama even after the big deaths that we saw during this episode. Sometimes, this is just how we end up seeing things transpire in this world.
