Monday, May 18 marks the season premiere of “The Bachelorette,” and it also marks the opportunity to see whether or not America actually responds to the crazy / controversial twist at the center of the entire series. Britt Nilsson and Kaitlyn Bristowe are both the stars of the show, but only one of them will end up getting the part within the first two episodes. The promo below (via E! News) reminds you of that, and also shows Kaitlyn in particular is upset about the idea of the men voting.
We won’t regurgitate what we’ve said on the site already, but we hate the twist for a number of reasons. Kaitlyn seemed to be the obvious favorite before it was unveiled, and it really feels like neither one of them should have to go through this after already going through “The Bachelor.” We hated the idea back when it was two guys in this position years ago as well. It just doesn’t really work – just pick someone to headline your show and get on with it.
On the fun side, it looks like there will be some arguments between the men right away. Also, someone is arriving dressed as a giant cupcake, which to us means that he may be trying to surpass the excellent Marquel as the purveyor of baked goods on the franchise. Who are we kidding, no one can top Marquel.
There’s one other bizarre thing to point out here. Look at the color of Britt and Kaitlyn’s dresses in the photo above. Then, look at the color of them below. It’s the same dress! Someone is either trying to pull some #TheDress trickery here, or someone had some fun messing around with colors after the fact so that they would look like they were dressed the color of a rose.
