ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4, episode 13 video: Andrew as Icarus; Mellie’s threat

Is Andrew flying too close to the sun on “Scandal” at the moment? If you ask Mellie Grant, that seems to certainly be the case.

In the sneak peek below, Mellie does her part to level just about as many different threats at the Vice-President as possible, and above all else, seems to be very interested in clipping his ego. She knows how badly he wants power, and how this was almost surely his primary motivation for some of his recent actions in the first place. That includes the kidnapping of Olivia Pope. Yet, no matter how hard he tries, he can never do better than second place. This is ultimately a very cruel reminder that Bellamy Young’s character sends his way … or at least what would be very cruel if we did not loathe Andrew with the white-house intensity of a billion stars.

Andrew’s reaction to all of this is defiance in a way, given that he knows that there are still some cards that he can play. For example, he knows that he continues to have at least a few cards that he can play. One of the biggest ones at the moment is merely the knowledge of his own affair with Mellie, and he can use that to ensure that she is never President, either. He is a dangerous man, and while he may be losing the battle, there is no guarantee at all that he will lose the war.
