Conan O’Brien talks Cuba trip, jokes about America (video)

As you may have heard over this past weekend, Conan O’Brien did a very historic thing in becoming the first late-night TV host in the past fifty years to film any sort of substantial footage in Cuba. The majority of the footage is going to air on the March 4 edition of his TBS series, but he did take a few moments at the start of tonight’s “Conan” to discuss what he has been up to.

In the video below, you can see part of Conan’s monologue about the subject, which of course included a series of jokes. However, most of them were about America rather than anything actually going on in the Caribbean country:

“Yesterday, I returned from Cuba, and then today, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi arrived in Cuba. Which explains why today, the Cuban government asked America to ‘Please stop sending us your ambiguously female celebrities’ … I had an amazing experience in Cuba, the people there are absolutely fantastic … I do have to say it’s very nice to be back home in front of all you capitalist pigs.”

The historic magnitude of this cannot be overstated here, since this marks a great step forward in relations between the two countries, that this sort of peaceful visit can occur. The ratings are also probably going to be pretty high. Due to the embargo, America does not really know a whole lot about modern Cuba, even though there are only a few other countries in the world that are located as close to our borders. This is a chance to educate, laugh, and focus on the everyday people.
