‘Survivor: Worlds Apart’ castaway spotlight: Will Mike Holloway drill down the competition?

Mike -For our latest edition of our “Survivor: Worlds Apart” castaway spotlight, we have Mike Holloway, a guy from Texas in the oil industry who sounds like they want to be a villain and one of the greatest players ever. The Rsusell Hantz comparisons are going to be inevitable, even if he comes across as more physically imposing and a little less maniacal. Interestingly, we actually think he physically looks a little bit like Tim Tebow. If he wins the game, will he do that touchdown celebration that was an internet meme about a billion years ago?

Let’s try to dig past the superficial and the obvious, though, as we hope to hammer down who Mike truly is, and what he could be capable of in this game. As with all other spotlights, don’t worry about spoilers or anything of the like!

Name – Mike Holloway

Age – 38

Location – North Richland Hills, Texas (it’s pretty close to Dallas)

Occupation – Oil driller

Tribe – Escameca a.k.a. Blue Collar

Strengths – When you think about “blue collar,” Mike is your guy. He looks like an oil driller, and he talks like one of those guys you see hauling stuff in a Chevy commercial. He’s going to work hard at camp, and he probably will be a contributor in the challenges. You’d have to pry him off anything that is an endurance challenge. We actually kind of like that he compared himself to Cochran in his CBS bio, even if we don’t fully buy it. It proves that he is at least trying to think with a strategic mind, and realizes that there is a deeper component to the game.

Weaknesses – He seems to mention both in his video and also in his bio at least something that suggests he’s a ladies’ man. He thinks that he can manipulate women, but we almost wonder if they could manipulate him with the sort of confidence he seems to have about himself. Also, he seems like the guy who would rag on someone for not working hard, and we could see him rubbing some people the wrong way. Never good in the early going.

Past “Survivor” comparison – Like we said, Russell comparisons are inevitable. His philosophy on the game (i.e. checking morals at the door) is a little similar to Tony, and we’d say that if you combine these two with maybe a little of two other alpha-male guys in Bo and Shannon, you probably have him.

Prediction – We think Mike probably will have to be a villain to make it far here, because nobody will take him to the end if he’s likable. He’s got too much other stuff going for him. We don’t seen him having a top three finish just because this season was filmed right after Tony’s win; we’re mostly worried about him being the second or third person gone from his tribe pre-merge (he’ll be a little more expendable then), or maybe an early merge boot because of his challenge threat status.
