‘Survivor: Worlds Apart’ castaway spotlight: Will Dan Foley go postal on the competition?

Dan -We have no problem being a little biased when it comes to our “Survivor” preseason coverage, so we are here to say that we have a soft spot in our heart already for Dan Foley on “Survivor: Worlds Apart.” We’re not sure that we have ever seen a contestant on this show who tried as hard as he has to be on the show. He claims in his CBS video below to have applied for almost every season, and has driven thousands upon thousands of miles to open casting calls. If there ever was some evidence out that being diligent can get you somewhere when it comes to this game, Dan is your poster child.

Now that we’ve said all of this, we have to pose another question: Will Dan actually be good at the game? That is something we are a little more unsure about at this given moment.

Name – Dan Foley (we keep wanting to call him Dave Foley, we can’t help it since Dave Foley is the greatest.)

Age – 47

Location – Gorham, Maine (he tells us that former contestant / Jeff Probst ex Julie Berry is also from Gorham)

Occupation – Postal service technician. He’s not a mailman; he helps out with the behind-the-scenes stuff and does apparently a billion other odd jobs.

Tribe – Escameca a.k.a. Blue Collar

Strengths – Anytime that you are a big fan of the game, you obviously are going to want to go out there and try to mix things up. Dan is not going to be a victim of standing idly by why someone else plots his demise. He wants to win, and not so much for the money as the glory. He will not be afraid to make big moves. We also anticipate him working hard around camp, and he will probably study basic survival skills beforehand to be of good use. He’s also self-deprecating and funny, and you need someone like that during tough times.

Weaknesses – 47 is not old, but it is enough to be the oldest person on his tribe. We don’t see this guy being physically dominant at all. As a matter of fact, he could be labeled an easy target just because of how he stands out from the group. Also, anytime you have a risk-taker, there’s always a chance that something blows up in your face. Take a look at Zane, who went all in on a crazy strategy three days into the game.

Past “Survivor” comparison – There are a few who come to mind here, and they cross a wide spectrum. We see a little bit of Rupert Boneham, a little bit of Ralph Kiser, and strangely a little bit of Louis Litt from “Suits.” We know that he’s white collar AND a fictional character, but still.

Prediction – Dan could be gone a few weeks into the game. It’s just hard to avoid being a weaker challenge player in tribes of six. He’s probably capable of surviving one tribal council, though, so what he should hope for is that his team wins, and then he gets ingratiated into a larger tribe. If that happens, he could be poised to make a very deep run into the game. He wouldn’t be viewed as a big threat at that point.
