‘King of the Nerds’ season 3, episode 4 review: Heather takes on Moby for nerds everywhere

Heather -Last time on “King of the Nerds” we saw one of our favorites in Todd the Bod not only have a colossal melt down when he learned he was going into the nerd off, but he also went home. The secret six are still ruling the roost, and despite their best efforts to get rid of Kaitlin who has gone through this game with the power of the terminator, they just can’t seem to get her out of the game. Who will go home tonight and will we see Kaitlin in the nerd off again?

Nerd war: To help introduce this week’s challenge we had some of the cast from previous seasons of “King of the Nerds” including one of our personal favorites in Zack Storch (you can listen to our podcast with him at the link here). This week the teams will be creating their own nerd anthems and we couldn’t be more excited for this challenge.

We saw our boy Colby take the lead on team S.M.A.S.H. when it came to getting the anthem on paper, where House Hooloovoo was so focused on being funny that it was over taking everything else. House Hooloovoo has lost a few nerd wars in a row and are worried that if they lose again that one of the secret six is going to have to go into the nerd off so they have a lot riding on this.

At the challenge the nerds met their guest judges were Moby, Lisa Loeb, and Travie McCoy and team S.M.A.S.H. perform first. We were thankful that they showed their lyrics at the bottom of the TV screen because they were a little hard to understand, but they were really funny and their energy had us dancing in our seats. We were a little surprised at how hard Moby was on this team as he picked apart their nerd cred. You’re on a show celebrating nerds – all kinds of nerds! This is not the show to pick nerds apart.

We were cheering Heather on when she stood up to Moby when he singled Ori out and started picking him apart. She said that the point of the song wasn’t to prove nerd cred but to lift up nerd spirit to feel good about who we all are whether we are hardcore nerds or just people with nerdy leanings.

As it turned out House Hooloovoo had nothing to worry about because their nerd anthem was super catchy, easy to understand and seeing Kaitlin come out of her shell and ride on Ben’s back across the stage was worth the price of admission alone.

Nerd off: With team S.M.A.S.H losing it was an easy pick for the secret six to get out either Colby or Ori since they are the only two on that team that is not in the alliance so into the nerd off they went (also Ori voted himself in, so there’s that). What they didn’t expect was Kaitlin to figure out that there was some sort of alliance going on and then to go to Jonathan to try to work out an alliance of her own.

What we found the most interesting from this nerd off was Bobby pointing out that another man was going to be leaving Nerdvana and that no women have left yet leaving Jonathan worried that the ladies have an alliance outside of him.

The secret six has dismantled almost all of the underdogs and as much as we think having a big strong alliance is good game play, it’s not that fun to watch. We only have two nerds left that are not part of the alliance and that’s our man Colby and Kaitlin who is such a bad ass.  We were sad to see Ori go home this week and hope that Colby and Kaitlin can push back. Episode grade: A-
