Super Bowl commercials: Liam Neeson gets angry in ‘Clash of Clans’ ad (video)
Anytime that you are selling some sort of game these days on a commercial, we really think you need someone who can appeal to the gaming community in an awesome way. For example, someone that many people probably want to be in real life.
Therefore, we have to say that Clash of Clans may have really gotten this right in placing Liam Neeson (now forever known as AngryNeeson52) within one of their Super Bowl commercials. We watched this spot for the game, and we immediately had a very positive reaction to it. After all, what wasn’t to like here? It was a chance to see the “Taken” star get WAY too intense over a phone game.
The good – Liam is a great spokesperson here, since you really sell your product as something that is intense and fun. We also like that there is enough integration of the game itself so that people will remember what exactly he is playing.
The bad – Maybe it was a little too predictable having Neeson being the typical tough-as-nails guy? He’s done this a whole lot lately, and we imagine that he will be doing it a whole lot more. Then again, this is also what he gets paid the big bucks to do and sometimes there’s really never enough of a good thing when it comes to Neeson.
The verdict – A lot of fun. Probably one that we’d watch a few more times just to see Neeson again. It’s not a classic per se, but a good ad that shows that getting the right endorser for your product makes the difference. Grade: A-.
